FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions about Colon Hydrotherapy:
What is colon hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle, safe and effective way of removing toxic wastes from the colon (large intestine). The process works by introducing warm, filtered water into the colon to hydrate and loosen hard, impacted fecal matter. This results in the evacuation of these wastes naturally through peristalsis.
What are the benefits of colon hydrotherapy?
-removes old, toxic, stagnant fecal matter
-strengthens muscle tone of the colon
-enhances absorption of nutrients
-decreases absorption of toxins
-increases bowel movement regularity
-aids in relieving gas, diarrhea and constipation
-can enhance mental clarity, improve skin tone and boost energy
What are the signs that the colon is not working optimally?
Some people may experience headaches, constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, acne, bad breath, irritability, and body odor.
What is an ideal bowel movement?
A person with a healthy colon will have a bowel movement 2-3 times per day, usually within 30 minutes of eating a meal. Healthy bowel movements should pass easily in one smooth piece, not hard, dry pellets. It should be the consistency of toothpaste, walnut color, and free of fowl odor. And this should all be accomplished without the use of laxatives.
How many appointments will I need?
This depends completely on the health and needs of each individual client, but on average, it is approximately 4-10 sessions.
How long is the treatment?
The treatment will be approximately 40 minutes long, but plan to be here for 1 hour. After the treatment, you will need to use the bathroom to flush out any remaining fecal matter still in the colon. The goal is to have fecal matter leave the body, so this is a very important part of your total session.
What should I expect after the session?
Patients typically feel great after their session. There is about a 1% chance you may feel slightly dizzy or lightheaded but it will go away within about 5-10 minutes. You will be able to carry on your regular day of work or whatever else you have planned for the day without worrying about ‘accidents’.
What is the cost?
Each session is $90.00 + GST, with the exception of your first visit. All our colonics are “Doctor Supervised” which means that all new patients will have an initial Naturopathic intake for 15-30 minutes prior to their treatment. This is to ensure that the doctor understands the health history of the patient in addition to possible diet recommendations that may be beneficial during the treatment. It is $175.00 + tax for that initial one-time visit. Starting in the new year the cost of an initial visit will increase to $195.00 + tax. Please count on 1.5 hours for your first visit.
Is the cost covered by Alberta Health Care?
Unfortunately, no, but most extended health care plans do cover the cost of Naturopathic Medicine. This is the advantage of our colonics being under the ‘care’ of a Naturopathic Doctor. Check with your plan, you may be surprised!
